The Food Pantry in North Reading, located at the town hall, assists approximately 120 families each year. As Girl Scouts, we decided to base our Silver Award Project around the Food Pantry since it has such a large impact on the community. A Silver Award Project is the highest award earned by a Cadette Girl Scout. To help Food Pantry families with ideas for cooking, we created a recipe book that includes recipes including many of the food items we found on the shelves of the food pantry, as well as in the Food Pantry Garden.
Below is an interesting promo filmed by NORCAM featuring the volunteers of the North Reading Food Pantry. If you have any more questions about the Food Pantry and how you can help out, please feel free to contact the North Reading Food Pantry at [email protected] or you can call 978-276-0040. You can also visit http://www.nrfoodpantry.org or the NRFP Facebook Page.
We would like to thank Sandy Carriker, Chair of the North Reading Food Pantry, Ruth Kennedy, member of the North Reading Garden Club, and Dave and Keith Killian from North Shore Print for all of their help and support. Sandy Carriker kindly let us go behind the scenes at the Food Pantry and gave permission for us to create this recipe book. Ruth Kennedy led the North Reading Girl Scouts in the planting of the bulbs to produce the vegetable gardens for the benefit of the North Reading Food Pantry. Dave and Keith Killian donated copies of our recipe booklet to give to the families of the Food Pantry who do not have access to this website. Without your help, this would not be possible.
